No 30 OTU was formed in June 1942 at RAF Hixon, Staffordshire as part of RAF Bomber Command, to train night bomber aircrew on the Vickers Wellington. Donald’s period of training was virtually complete when he was killed during night bombing practice in bad weather on Saturday 31st October 1942 at the age of 25. He was subsequently buried in Stoneleigh (St.Mary) Churchyard, Warwickshire.
