Lawrence was born in Australia and was a mining engineer by profession, beginning his career at the Gaika gold mine in Southern Rhodesia in 1930.  In 1932 he came to London where he was student at the Royal School of Mines, graduating in 1938. He then took up employment as a surveyor at the Geduld mine, Transvaal, South Africa.

Whilst in England in 1935 he was [yet another OW] to be involved in a vehicle accident as the following newspaper report of the time describes.

The circumstances of his death at the age of 33 on Sunday 21st May 1944 are unknown at this time and he is one of two OWs to lie in Sangro River War Cemetery, Torino di Sangro in Italy.

Husband of Helen Vivien Edwards of Natal, South Africa: son of Stanley James Edwards & Constance Edith Edwards.
