15th September 2017
The first speaker of the new academic year was an OWA, David Macdonald, who had a worldwide career with Shell, culminating as a Director. His first talk, The Business of Business, on basic business principles and practices, was to a general audience; followed by Globalisation, to 6th Form Business Studies students.

22nd September 2017
Andy Hurd talked to the Sixth Form about 18-plus apprenticeships; their place in developing skills, qualifications and individual long-term goals.

25th September 2017
Business simulation competition for the Sixth Form, run by Guy Giffin, a business expert who specialises in training staff using computer simulations. Students worked in teams of three and set-up and managed online companies with the goal of winning the competition.

6th October 2017
We heard from Emma Jones, HR Recruitment Specialist from Ingenium Search Ltd whose field is executive search consulting specialising in +£50,000 roles with a particular expertise in Human Resources. Emma talked about the recruitment industry, her experiences to-date, opportunities for young people and what to expect from getting a job in this industry.

8th November and 22nd November 2017, 3.30pm - 5.30pm
These events are being hosted by Graham King from the ITR Academy whose members are coming in to talk to all of the Sixth Form on a rolling basis. These lectures are about preparing for work and will be teaching skills required to enter the workplace, including CV writing, interview techniques, presentation skills, etc. ITR is a company specialising in training staff to be more employable.

15th November 2017, 3pm – 6pm
18+ Apprenticeship and Careers fair. This will be hosted by the Business School and will be open to the wider public, aimed mainly at 18 year olds. There will be a number of organisations in different industries present to discuss opportunities available including the Military, Finance, Engineering Construction, Law amongst others. Focus event on Accountancy | 7th March 2018
This event was hosted by the Business School and was open to the wider public and students from other schools. There was a representative from KPMG who discussed opportunities available in Accountancy and Finance.
Focus event on Engineering and Construction | 15th November 2017, 4pm – 6pm
This event was hosted by the Business School and was open to the wider public and students from other schools. There were a number of organisations present to discuss opportunities available in Engineering and Construction.

Focus event on Sales | Friday 9th March 2018
Dan Chilcot spoke about his career in Sales. He is an Old Wrekinian who left Wrekin with one A Level and now sells Telecoms generating $70M in annual sales all over the world. He talked about how he fell into sales, what he loves about his job and what companies look for in potential employees.

Simon Medland, QC and judge talked about a career in Law.

Focus event on Journalism | Friday 23rd March 2018
Tom Graham, General Manager, MNA Magazines talked about his career and opportunities within the field of Journalism within the digital age. 

Navigating Healthcare | Friday 27th April 2018
Melanie Humphries provided an exciting and interactive platform to explore career opportunities within Healthcare for 2018 and beyond. The talk explored patient journeys to bring alive how the multitude of professional teams work together to deliver care, and uphold values, to help individual people and improve the health of the whole community. The talk was incredibly beneficial for pupils considering a career in healthcare.
