Over October half term the Art department went on their overseas trip to Venice, Italy. Under bright blue skies and 24 degree sunshine, 11 Wrekin pupils from Fifth and Sixth Forms Mr Phillips, Mrs Jagger and Miss Evans, were treated to some of the city's finest sites including the Grand Canal, St Mark's Basilica, The Doge's Palace and the Rialto.
Other sites visited were the Friari Church, Scola Grande di San Rocco, the Venice Guggenheim and not forgetting the 2019 Biennale contemporary international art exhibition, where we were also treated to a tour given by Old Wrekinian Charlotte Nicoll, who is currently studying in the city as part of her degree in History of Art at Warwick University.
A total of 23 miles were clocked up walking the narrow city streets, punctuated by Vaporetto boat rides and an unforgettable traversing of the Grand Canal on a traditional traghetto gondola. Several school records were broken by the Wrekin tourists including the medal for 'most carbonara consumed' and an impressive five pizza haul. Mr Phillips was delighted with the group on all fronts and the trip was a great success.
