The annual London Dinner, moved to a Friday evening for the first time this year, was held at the East India Club on 8th November. There were 70 in attendance, with a good range of OWs, some of whom had only left Wrekin a couple of years previously and others quite some years ago. Drinks were served in the Clive Room to start the evening before dinner was served in the East India dining room. The London President, Rod Rigby thanked all for attending and the current Headmaster, Tim Firth, provided an update on the school and its most recent achievements, placing emphasis on the employability factor students benefit from thanks to the enterprising Business School, with many more choosing apprenticeships over university degrees. Andy Hurd, who retired this year after nearly 40 years at Wrekin, responded by highlighting the many opportunities available to the school’s current pupils and thanked the many Old Wrekinians attending that had given their time to talk to pupils about their own careers. Andy and Chris have given so much to Wrekin, and yet poignantly, they wanted to thank the many pupils they looked after in Tudor and taught over the years that made it so enjoyable for them, which is a testament to the character of the school’s community spirit.
