Events and Reunions |
There were 76 Old Wrekinians and guests in attendance at the East India Club, St James’ Square for the 2018 London Branch Dinner. Drinks were served in the bar before the OWs assembled in the dining room for an enjoyable four course meal. Rod Rigby, London Branch President, addressed the OWs after dinner and emphasised his gratitude for their attendance. In particular he was pleased that so many ‘young’ Old Wrekinians had chosen to attend the event, wishing them all well in their endeavours and hoped to see them at the London Golf Day or Tavern Trot next year. Headmaster Tim Firth provided an update on the school’s activities, the demolition of the music school, and record-breaking academic results. A special note was made for two outgoing members of staff who will retire after many years of service, Andy Hurd and Phil Berry. It was lovely that so many of Phil Berry’s Clarkson girls could join the OWs in marking the school’s gratitude for his 45 years at Wrekin, honoured with a standing ovation from all attendees. Dr Rodney Edrich closed the speeches with an amusing meditation on how things have changed at the school, highlighting his thanks for the invitation to open the new library which is named after him. The guests then retired to the bar for a chance to get to know their fellow OWs, to toast the school and enjoy the rest of their evening.
The London Branch and the school would like to express their thanks to all the OWs that attended and hope that everyone enjoyed the event.
