50th Anniversary Lunch at Wrekin College

We welcomed Old Wrekinians who left in 1969 and 1970 back to Wrekin for a trip down memory lane!
We welcomed Old Wrekinians who left in 1969 and 1970 back to Wrekin on Wednesday 26th February to celebrate 50 years since leaving school. Upon arrival coffee was taken in the newly refurbished Old Wrekinian Room where the School archives are now housed.

Mervyn Joyner, now the archivist, was a member of staff at Wrekin when these Wrekinians attended the school so it was brilliant that he was there to offer a friendly face and dig out some photographs, House log books and even their school reports!

We then enjoyed lunch on top-table in the School dining room, where the difference 50 years has made was apparent. It was all change with one exception in the form of Mildred, a member of the catering staff who joined Wrekin as a young woman just over 50 years ago and the OWs remembered with great fondness!

The afternoon was spent exploring the site, the old and the new. One OW commented that it seemed an almost peculiar mixture of things that had barely changed at all and those that they have barely comprehended in their time here. It is testament to the fact that although Wrekin is constantly developing, it values its history and the traditions that come along with it most of all.

We thank all those that were able to join us, that they had an enjoyable time looking around the old place and also those that sent their best wishes. We look forward to welcoming the Class of 1971 next year!
