My father was born in 1940s Singapore into a Eurasian family, proud of both their Western and Eastern heritage. Shortly after this the Japanese invaded the Singapore and a whole sequence of chance, improbable events then led to his Mother ending up in England with a Wrekin old boy as her partner. Sterling Calder was adamant that my Father should have as good an education as he himself had had, and after the war my father came to England and then attended the school as a boarder from 1954 -1959

Within just a few years my father went from running after wild chickens in the South East Asian jungle to chasing rugby balls at Wrekin. He adored his time at Wrekin, in Norman House, and stayed in touch with many of the friends he made there. He was a regular at the old boys reunions in London and he would love to talk and reminisce about Wrekin all day if he had a captive audience.

On leaving Wrekin Chris became an insurance broker and had a successful career in the City of London before eventually running his own business in Sutton, Surrey.

An athlete, boxer and rugby player at Wrekin, Dad played very high quality amateur rugby union for Wasps throughout the 60s. He also became an accomplished squash player.

In 1966 he was married and in March 1967 he had his first and only child, Simon

He retained a great passion for family, travel and business throughout his life. His great love, though, was horseracing and he retained a keen interest in this right through to his passing on October 14th 2022 at the age of 81.

Throughout his life he was exuberant, mischievous and extremely generous. He could energise the room, particularly if Wrekin was the subject of conversation.

He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his son Simon and his partner of 30 years Marjie.
