Peter Joseph Murcott (T.1947-53) 10th May 1936 to 11th April 2022
Peter Joseph Murcott, who everybody knew as PJ, died peacefully on 11th April 2022, after a short illness.
He attended Wrekin College from 1947 to 1953 and was part of Tudor House.
Upon leaving school, PJ wanted to join the Navy but his father put a stop to this and insisted he went into the family castings business, J V Murcott & Sons.
Being good with people and numbers, and an excellent communicator, getting on with people of all generations, he soon took over the commercial activities of the business, of which he was part for the next 40 years.
Having a liking for good food, good wine, and a cigar, he was a larger-than-life character and enjoyed his life to the full, in particular enjoying his rugby
Overall, he was a kind, wise, and generous man who was great company for all who knew him. The best illustration of this was that he was notorious for turning up at Rugby Bigside at Wrekin when his son was playing for the 1st XV, with a very well “stocked” boot in his car, from which he always dispensed memorable hospitality. He was always seen as the elder statesman of the family.
He was husband to his late wife Norma, father to Soraya and Wayne (who also attended Wrekin), and Grandfather to Natasha and Joshua.
His funeral and subsequent wake was a lively well well-supported affair, and he will be much missed.
