We were delighted to welcome Mr Geoffrey Holroyde (S. 42-46) back to Wrekin for the first time since he left school. Mr Holroyde was the first Organ Scholar, and we were incredibly grateful that he was able to spend some time during his visit with the current Wrekin College musicians.
He attended Lancaster Chapel, a congregational practice and a Chapel Choir rehearsal. He observed Henry Willis' (photographed) piano lesson and also observed some A Level music lessons; as an organist himself Atahan Camlibel had an organ lesson with him in the Chapel.
The school Prefects were lucky enough to attend a fascinating question and answer session with Geoffrey where they found out about life at school during the war and were grilled about life at Wrekin in the present day.
After leaving Wrekin in 1946 Mr Holroyde obtained a degree in Maths and Physics, then after he retired he gained a second degree in Organ Playing. He now lives in Gosport and was responsible for the restoration of an 18th Century Organ that once belonged to Duke Chandos who employed the famous composer George Frederic Handel.
