Lawrence was born in Australia and was a mining engineer by profession. He was the husband of Helen Vivien Edwards of Natal, South Africa: son of Stanley James Edwards & Constance Edith Edwards.

The circumstances of his death at the age of 33 on Sunday 21st May 1944 are unknown at this time and he is one of two OWs to lie in Sangro River War Cemetery, Torino di Sangro in Italy.
