Phillip enlisted in 1943 in the Royal Corps of Signals and was attached to 2nd Household Cavalry Regiment when they landed in France as part of the Normandy landings on D-Day+37. He was to witness little of the serious fighting in his first few days in France but that changed on D-Day+42 [Tuesday 18^th July 1944] when he was killed in action at the age of 31. Philip is buried in Hermanville War Cemetery, Hermanville-sur-Mer, France.
