We want to say a huge well done to all the pupils who performed at the NCBF Finals in April!

We are so proud to say that both the Wrekin College Concert Band and Jazz Band received Platinum Awards. The Jazz Band also received a special award called the 'Consistent Outstanding Performance Award’ for attaining National Platinum Awards for the last three consecutive National Finals.

But the accolades don't stop there!

Wrekin were also awarded three other awards for both individuals. Lower Sixth Form pupil, Adrian Au, won an Outstanding Soloist Award, and sections of the bands won two other awards.

Along with our Director of Music, Mr Platford, our young musicians have worked so hard this year and deserve every success. Well done all!

Here's what Director of Music, Simon Platford had to say to the OWA who provided funds to purchase a new instrument for the occasion:

I am writing to you on behalf of the music department to offer our thanks again to the OWA for the tubular bells and to say that they undoubtedly helped the school concert band achieve the top platinum award at the National Finals in Manchester.

We picked a piece that featured the bells called 'The Spirit of the Falcon' by a gentleman called Richard Saucedo, an exciting opening piece that builds up at the end to a sparkling finish. The bells play a huge part in this piece and really added to the sound the band produced. It helped us set a marker that gave us momentum, really caught the judges attention and set us on our way!

We will be playing this piece again at the summer concert on June 30th so if any of the OWA's would like to come and hear their impact I would be delighted to welcome them. The concert starts at 7PM in the Sports Hall.

Thank you once again to the OWA, we seriously appreciate it.
