Arthur played cricket for Wolverhampton Cricket Club on leaving school and also represented Staffordshire at county level.

In 1934 he was involved in a driving incident as reported at the time.

Little is known of his military career at present apart from the fact that he was killed in action prior to the fall of Singapore on Saturday 14^th February 1942 at the age of 33 and one of two OWs to lie in Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore.
