William was a Chartered Accountant in civilian life.
The 6th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, was formed just before the outbreak of World War II in 1939 with William receiving his commission on 14th June that year.
His battalion saw action in the invasion of Sicily and the subsequent Italian campaign as a machine gun unit and it was during this period that he lost his life. William is the third and final OW to lie in this Italian cemetery.
Only son of William Morton & Jessie Morton, of Hyde, Cheshire.
