To mark the ten year anniversary of the tragic passing of Hugh Jones (T. 2006-11), his friends will be walking up and down the Wrekin ten times in his memory to raise money for Head for Change.

This is the third and final challenge for the group, following on from the 4x4x48 (where they ran four miles every four hours over the course of 48 hours) and 242forHugh challenge (where they cycled from Shropshire to Abersoch and back in 24 hours). Now the running shoes & cleets are off & the hiking boots are on.

TEAM UK: Matthew Young (T. 2006-11), Ted Dodwell-Hill (L/B. 2005-12), George Taylor (L/T. 2004-11), Joe Hawcroft (L/T. 2005-11), Harry Griffiths (L/B. 2004-11), Ollie Holt (L/Y. 2005-11) and Patrick Howells (T. 2004-11) will all be walking up and down the Wrekin ten times (47km in total).

TEAM AUS: Whilst the UK boys are hiking up & down, Tom Saunders (L/B. 2004-11) in Australia will be RUNNING the same distance at the same time. Thats 47km / over 29 miles.

So why Head for Change?

Hugh being a proud Welshman at a mainly English school loved to voice his opinion on how great Wales & Welsh rugby was. When ever he was play fighting or on the rugby pitch he would shout 'release the Popham', harnessing his favourite Welsh rugby player, Alix Popham. At the same point we were searching for charities Alix bravely announced his diagnosis of early onset Dementia & launched his charity 'Head for Change. It's a great cause & one we are looking forward to supporting in 2021.

We've already had a lovely amount of support from Alix and his family, including getting the opportunity to share stories of Hugh over the phone & have a shout out on a Welsh rugby podcast.

If you can, Hugh's friends would be incredibly grateful if you could follow the link to their JustGiving page and make a donation to this amazing cause: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thewrekinhike

In December it will mark the 10 year anniversary of a legend who was taken far too early. Hugh was a memorable figure; funny, cheeky, & caring to all his friends & family. We have so many incredible memories of Hugh & we're so lucky to have known him.
