Events and Reunions |
We were thrilled to welcome numerous Old Wrekinians back to school for our pre-1975 leavers' reunion on Wednesday, 2nd October. The day started with registration and refreshments in the Lower Dining Hall, followed by a special Chapel service, where we were joined by members of the Wrekin Chapel Choir. Prior to the event, we requested guests to submit their favorite hymns, and it came as no surprise that the most popular choice was "Jerusalem," which then formed a memorable part of the service.
Lunch took place in the Memorial Hall, where guests had time to reminisce over the past and share special memories of their times at Wrekin. Dr. Haydn Griffiths, Wrekin College Foundation Chairman, Trustee, and OWA Treasurer gave a welcome speech to thank everyone for attending and also thanked Old Wrekinians for their continued support of the Foundation. Peter Buckley delivered a speech in which he commemorated the late Mervyn Joyner.
After lunch, there were tours of the campus and our visitors got to see inside some of the old dorm rooms, which was a rare opportunity. The tours were led by current Wrekin pupils, who were amazed at how things used to be in the past. Likewise, the OWs were amazed by the indoor pool facilities!
We finished the day with farewell tea and coffee in the Lower Dining Hall. The day was a huge success. Thank you to all who came; it was a joy to have you all back at Wrekin.
