Obituaries

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Jonathan Evers on the morning of 26 May 2024.  I know that many Old Wrekinian golfers have the very fondest of memories of Jonathan.  As a golfing community and Old Wrekinians, we wish the best for Jonathan’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

We affectionately knew Jonathan as “Badger” because of a thick mane of silver hair from a relatively early age.  Jonathan first represented the Old Wrekinians in the Halford Hewitt in 1991. He partnered with Alistair Brett and claimed a point in his first match beating TFN Bebb and MWD MacLagan of Winchester 2&1.  In 1992, Jonathan helped Wrekin reach the quarter-finals, a feat that Wrekin has not achieved since.  He represented Wrekin 29 times in the Halford Hewitt and notched up 10 wins.  This is a considerable contribution from a formidable golfer and one for which we are extremely grateful.

Jonathan also played golf for the Old Wrekinians in the Grafton Morrish and was a regular player in the Midlands Public Schools competition played at Little Aston, where he was a member.

We miss him.  May he rest in peace.

Simon Westgarth, on behalf of the Old Wrekinian Golf Society
