John was working for Lloyds Bank International Ltd in Rangoon at the outbreak of war and was given permission to join the Army. Although he died in Ranchi Military Hospital from exhaustion and malaria on Friday 5th June 1942 at the age of 31 he was buried with full military honours in Ranchi War Cemetery, India.

Elder son of John Robertson Knott & Isabella Knott of Lydart, Monmouthshire, Wales; brother of WR Knott [T.1927-31].
