Oliver joined the RAF on leaving Wrekin where he qualified as a Sergeant-Airgunner with 40 Squadron which in late 1944 was based at Foggia, Italy, flying the Vickers Wellington X twin-engine medium bomber.

He was initially reported missing on Thursday 23rd November 1944, [later confirmed dead] from operations over Szombathely, Hungary, when his aircraft, Wellington X LP732 failed to return. Oliver, aged 20, is buried in Budapest War Cemetery in Hungary.

Son of Frederick Cook & Margaret Russell Leslie Cook of Birkenhead, Cheshire.
