Oliver joined the RAF on leaving Wrekin where he qualified as a Sergeant-Airgunner with 40 Squadron which in late 1944 was based at Foggia, Italy, flying the Vickers Wellington X twin-engine medium bomber.

His aircraft, Wellington X LP-732, took off at 17:02hrs on 22^nd November but was initially reported missing on 23^rd November when it failed to return from operations to bomb some railway marshalling yards over Szombathely, Hungary.

Oliver, aged 20, is buried in Budapest War Cemetery in Hungary.
