John’s regiment fought across Normandy & NW Europe after the D-day landings. On New Years Day 1945 his unit was attached to the 6th Airborne Division when it moved into the Ardennes as part of the 21st Army Group under the overall command of Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery at the apex of the enemy salient.

It was during the “Battle of the Bulge”, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, that John was to lose his life on Sunday 7th January 1945 at the age of 25. He is buried within Hotton War Cemetery, Belgium.

Son of Charles Eric Milner & Audrey Ambler Milner, of Birmingham, Warwickshire.
