Peter was set on the Army as a career when he left Wrekin which saw him pass out from RMA Sandhurst on 28^th October 1945 with a commission. After some months spent at Cairo in the study of military law and police duties he was posted to Iraq where he was killed on active service at the age of 20 on Tuesday 13^th August 1946. He is buried in Basra War Cemetery, Iraq¹.

Only child of Joseph John Milton & Frances Muriel Mustill Milton of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Nephew of Mrs Gladys Kate Gordon, the second wife of the former Headmaster Walter Maxwell Gordon.

With Peter's death the Wrekin Roll of Honour relating to the Second World War was finally complete, over a year after hostilities ended.

1. Site surveyed in 2018 and cleared of debris & a new perimeter fence installed. The CWGC subsequently cleared the cemetery of all grave markers before abandoning the site, the cross of sacrifice and plinth. Locals then started using the area as a football and games field. However, the graves themselves remain undisturbed and with the sub-bases remaining in place individual graves are relatively easy to identify.
   In an update on 16^th October 2025 the CWGC has a contractor in place to monitor the site but there no plans to return to the country and renovate or maintain any of the cemeteries and monuments there representing approximately 100,000 British Forces casualties. FCDO advises against all travel to Iraq except to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
