On Saturday 22nd January the Wrekin Old Hall Trust’s second artificial playing surface was officially opened.
Despite the cold weather, plenty of supporters came along to celebrate the occasion. Old Wrekinian and Governor Jonathan Grant kindly cut the ribbon before running on to the pitch to join the OWA mixed team in their battle against a very strong mixed school team.
It was an exciting and closely fought match, with the OWA claiming the victory in the final minutes and a final score of 5-4. Well done to all who played, umpired and supported.
It was a wonderful occasion, honouring Phil Berry and Barrie Roberts for their dedication to the sport and their immense contributions to the development of Wrekin and OWA hockey. Phil and Barrie unveiled the plaques which will reside on each of the Astros, before delivering speeches to players and supporters at the lunch which followed the game.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made it a wonderful day. If you missed it, come along to the OWA Hockey and Netball matches on Sunday 6th March, we hope to see you then!
