The Hoylake dinner took place at the prestigious Royal Liverpool Golf Club on Saturday, 12th October. The day began with golf, with the golfers experiencing all four seaons in one afternoon! However, this didn't deter our keen golfers.
The schedule ran as follows:
12.48 Fraser Smith with Mark Dufty, Nick Ingham and Grant Berry
12.56 Andy Evans with Ian Anderson and David Franklin
13.04 Rob Spence with John & Oliver Richards and Richard Bruckshaw
13.12 Will Ward with Henry & Toby Davies and Will Bruckshaw
13.20 David Lewis with Sean & John Bennett and Peter Cooke
13.28 Mike Halewood with Stephen Cheshire, Mike Greaves and James Wright
13.36 Tony Bush with Bob Hyatt, Tom Baker and Simon White
Crowning John Bennett (father of an OW) as the winner with 35 points.
In the evening, everyone was greeted with a lovely drinks reception and some tasty starters, which provided a chance for everyone to mingle and catch up with old friends. Richard Dutton took centre stage as Master of Ceremonies, welcoming all and saying grace before we enjoyed a delightful dinner.
The Headmaster, Toby Spence, provided everyone with an update on the school and its recent activities. Then, OW and current staff member David Winterton took to the floor with an energetic and humor-filled speech, transporting all the OWs back to their time at Wrekin. He highlighted the changes from then to now, the occasional mischief that came with being a pupil at Wrekin, and how his experience and the people he encountered positively shaped him over the years.
The evening was in memory of Andrew Douglas (T.73-78) a proud Wrekinian and a Wirral boy.
Thank you to David Lewis for organising this much-loved OW event. We hope to see you all again next year!
